"A descriptive memorandum acompanying a request of priviledge for the duration of 15 years in The Republic Of The United States of Brazil for "An apparatus with the purpose of distance phonetic transmission, with or without the aid of wires - through space, land and aqueous elements" by the brazilian inventor, Father Roberto Landell de Moura, residing in the City of São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil.

The invention object is an apparatus suitable for distance phonetic transmission, with or without the use of conductive wires, through space, land, as well as aqueous elements. Furthermore, according to the means that make use of, each one takes a particular name, although both are identical machines according to the laws and principles that govern them and the common purpose for which they are to be destined, yet there are substancial differences among them, not only in the means, but also by the several and indispensable annexed implements and by the modifications more or less profound that are present in them, emphasizing the"TELLOGOSTOMO" and the  "TELAUXIOPHONE".


This machine is composed of the following parts:

" 1 - A wide box (A), square in shape, it may be of various sizes and shapes, without a top cover or bottom, having at one of these extremities a wooden strip (1) 25 to 40 mm wide on one end, narrowing down to 15 to 20 mm on the other. In the center of the interior of the box, there is a galvanized iron disk (2), which is fastened against the wooden strip. On the disk, a metallic tube of the same kind (3) is screwed on in a perpendicular position, and in the inferior portion, crosses the wooden strip. side to side, which serves as support for the disk, terminating by an acoustic tube, and in turn, in a mouthpiece (4). The tube, which is elevated to a point just below the center, curves to an elbow shape and from then on, to the opposite direction of the wooden strip, widening to a conical shape (5) until it reachs a diameter equal to the corresponding distance between the tube support and the begining of the curve.

" 2 - A second wooden box (B) of pyramidal form, with one third of the height of Box A, has its greatest side's surface juxtaposed perfectly onto the other box, leaving in all four faces, a small gap (6) of which, the narrowest portion fatures a thin bottom (7) made of galvanized iron, or glass and steel, which can be of a concave, convex, or flat shape, according to the job for which the machine is intended.

" 3 - A third box (C) of a long pyramidal shape, with an open apex and base that can be made of a single piece or several other boxes as indicated in Fig 2, which come out one from the other by way of high power telescope. In the first instance, whenever there is a need to use the box, the narrowest part adheres perfectly to the mouth of Box A; in the second instance, the smaller box encloses Box A, sliding like a drawer.

" 4 - Another box, (D) is placed on the botton of Box A, that is externally fastened. The botton of Box D (8) can be constituted of a wooden lid, or metallic netting. Whenever Box C is used and articulated, Box D is juxtaposed perfectly, edge against edge, to the smaller box in system C. The A and C boxes are covered by tin metal sheets.

" 5 -A cylinder, (9) with a slightly greater diameter than of the funnel that lies in the interior of Box A and of the length of the space between the curv ad the mouth of Box A. This cylinder is made of galvanized iron, with the interneal walls covered by resinous wood, or any other non-conductive materials, has openings on both ends and is closed by lids of the same type of metal in a concave shape, having in its interior a Compulsor (10) that is, an electric fan of high speed rotation, and in front of it, a PHOTOPHOR 9 (11) of great intensity. This Photophor can be placed on top of the machine as well, and the Compulsor, in the interior of Box (D) if double channelization is desired.

" 6 - A long reach telescope, a compass and a level that can be placed on top of the machine.
For greater convenience, the machine can be placed on top of a commode.

"The receiver is identical to the previous one, when lent to this purpose, and the Compulsor cylinder is inverted, enabling it to be moved.

"Operation:: After placing both machines at a distance, one in front of the other for communicating on land, both wires that originate in the Compulsor cylinder and Photophor, the Compulsor is put in motion. After then, one speaks and listens, noting that to be able to listen, it is necessary to stop the compulsor or remove it.

"Uses: With this apparatus, voice can be projected through space at considerable distances. It works in conditions such as sunshine, rain, humid climates, thick fog, as well as under adverse strong winds if used with automatic boards, noting that with the two last examples, prodigious distances can be achieved. Over the oceans, whenever thick fog is present and the region is calm, this machine cam provide for very useful services. With variations of the metallic bottom of Box B, without the use of the receiver, all persons located within the perimeter of irradiation will be able to hear the voice transmitted perfectly, as long as it is precipitated towards an ample perpendicular surface. Headphones can also be utilized, as long as a very sensitive microphone is adapted to the machine, or if the radiophony or photophony theory is adopted. Wireless telegraphy can be achieved as well, if Branly tubes a producer of electric current are used.

" Telauxiophone : For this purpose, I employ the apparatus as described above, but without the telescope, compass, level, compulsor, photophor, acoustic tube and in some instances, Box C. In the apex of the tube to which the acoustic tube was attached, a microphone of greater amplitude, as well as a larger induction coil is used.
Better quality earphones should be employed for private listening. For open listening, a special earphone should be used, with a nucleus more subdivided, a heavier magnet and a coil that is larger than the ones found in the more common models. In the part that is placed against the ear, there is a metal box, to the center of which, an acoustic horn is attached in a horizontal position for open listening.
Throughout the tube and the metallic box, several holes are applied. In this box, auditive tubes are adapted for open, private or multi-listening. The open listening receiver can be adapted to the transmitter machine, in the interior, exterior, or on top of Box A. In this case, the person will not need to be in near proximity of the machine. There is no need to use a bell, instrumental, or articulated sound.
The operability of the machine is evidenced by what is spoken.
Uses: Common telephony can be obtained with greater clarity, intensity and comfort, however.
With this notable difference, only one transmitter is needed, no matter how many sound instruments or voices are employed.

If the two conductors are connected to the special part that I will name "Submerger", telegraphy or telephony through land or water can be accomplished. The submerger consists of an impermeable wooden frame that can vary in size and has both sides attached to metal plates forming a box with its interior filled with a special solution, and above it two wires that are present and correspond to both metal plates.
Using the Submerger: For transmissions over water, one submerger is connected to a hidraulic conductor and buried in the ground. The other is placed under water. In the latter case, the machine is called "Telhydrauliograph" or the "Telhydrauliophone" on the applications of either telegraphy or telephony.
Telephony, aerial and mixed telegraphy, that is, with or without the us can be achieved.
In sum, the words below serve to reinvidicate the points and characteristics of my invention:
" 1 - A quadrilateral wooden body, covered by tin metal sheets externally, which on one side has a pyramidal shape, and the other has a board with the bottom made of galvanized iron, or mirrored steel. In the interior, theres is a funnel positioned towards the board, serving as a support for the galvanized iron tube that is screwed perpendicularly onto one of the sides of the box, traversing the disk, piercing from one side of the board to the other in the inferior part, and terminates in a acoustic tube and in turn, in a mouthpiece.

" 2 - A cylinder made of galvanized steel sheeting, with one end open, and the other closed with a lid of the same kind of material in a concave shape. The interior is covered by a resinous or equivalent material,  having in its lower part a high speed fan and in front of it, a small photophor of great intensity."

3 - A special set of headphones with a coil of greater size and heavier magnet than found in the more commom types. These headphones terminate in a acoustic metal box, and have a small tube in the center, with an acoustic horn adapted in the horizontal position, for open listening. Several holes are present in the tube and in the box. This is for private multi-listening through the auditive tubes.

"4 - A frame made of impermeable wood a few centimeters thick. Metal plates are placed on both sides of the frame forming a narrow box and is sealed hermetically. This box is filled with a special solution and features two photophors connected to the metallic plates, in relation to what I  described above, substantially, essentially, or accidentally, and to several applications and variations."

I state below, that in the description of the Tellogostomo at the end of paragraph 5, it must be added that:
In this case, another luminous focus must be placed, as well as in Box D, so the walls and botton of Box C must
be made of glass. ."
